Licenced as VK6JIP in 1987.  When my father, Philip Beck, passed away in 1999 I acquired his callsign, VK6ZBP. I changed my callsign to VK6WPX in 2005. In 2008 I released VK6ZBP and then changed my callsign to VK6WX.

I am a Science teacher (specialising in Physics and Chemistry) have taught in Perth, W.A. for 2 years, Queensland for nearly 2 years, Merredin, W.A. for 8 years and Mount Barker, W.A. initially for just over 4 years and now since 2007.

Long time member of the Northern Corridor Radio Group, premier radio club in Western Australia, if not all of VK. I am also a member of the Southern Electronics Group, based in Albany.

Married to the lovely Jane since 2010 and father to the equally lovely Felicity as of 2010 and Matthew as of 2012.

I am active on HF when I get the opportunity and love going in contests. I'm not very good at CW but do try and have a bash at it. Occasionally on PSK31 and have had 1 QSO on RTTY. At the moment I am mainly concentrating on DX from South America and Africa so I can attain some awards

I have achieved the following awards:

  • WIA: DXCC multi-mode open (225 entities), DXCC multi-mode phone (175), DXCC multi-mode CW (125), DXCC multi-band 20m open (150),  DXCC multi-band 20m phone (125)   (Also achieved 100 entities for 15m open DXCC)
    * = awaiting confirmation
  • IARU: WAC basic open, WAC basic phone, WAC basic CW
  • eQSL: eDXTM (125), eDX 100TM (125), eAustraliaTM (10), ePFX300TM (450), eJapan (12)

QSL is 100% via the VK bureau, direct (QTH-R), e-QSL and LoTW. 3 Green Stamps (or AU$) and a self addressed envelope will be greatly appreciated to pay for mailing costs, production of QSL cards etc. (Australia Post recently removed their cheaper "card only" rate and it sits at $2.60 to send cards overseas to most destinations.)

Just a note about TZ6BB and VP5DX.

TZ6BB couldn't quite copy me and with help we changed from SSB to CW. He worked me on CW ok. A little while later band conditions got better and I was able to work him on SSB. I really appreciated the relay help given to me that day.

VP5DX was operating during the 2013 CQ WW DX Contest. I gave him a call and he was able to copy my suffix. After many attempts, around 5 mins I guess, he was able to copy me. A big thanks for that! Taking the time out to listen for the "little pistols" in a contest is very much appreciated.

I try to get onto the ANZA net on 14.183MHz when I can. Fantastic, well run net. Same as the Southern Cross DX Net.
