Donations are tax-deductible


All donations to the Heard Island Expedition VKØEK are tax-deductible under section 501(c)(3) of the U. S. IRS code. Our authorization [Cordell Expeditions] contains the following statement:

Donors can deduct contributions they make to you [Cordell Expeditions] under IRC Section 170. You're also qualified to receive tax-deductible bequests, devises, transfers, or gifts under Section 2055, 2106, or 2522. ... Cordell Expeditions is further classified as a public charity under IRC Section 170(b)(1)(A)(vi).

Cordell Expeditions has Federal Employer Identification Number 47-2958353. The account for the Heard Island Expedition is kept at Bank of America. We prefer checks rather than PayPal, but please don't hesitate to do either! Here is how we will use your donation:

1. About a third of the vessel charter cost.
2. Facilities, including shelters, equipment, generators and electric power distribution, water purification and distribution, furniture, lighting, shipping cases, ropes, stakes, supplies, etc.
3. Fuel for heating and generators, food, medical supplies, etc.
4. Transportation and storage for equipment to the point of departure and return.
5. Communications satellite terminals and usage time for uploading real-time radio log data, audio, and images.
6. Scientific equipment (collecting apparatus, chemicals, ultraviolet lights, digital storage media, weather instruments, kites, insect nets, chemicals and containers, etc.).
7. Computers for radio networks and satellite connections, and WiFi.

Your support will NOT be used for:

8. Any overhead for project management, personal travel and fees, etc.
9. Radio equipment: Radios, amplifiers, coax, antennas, software, etc.
10. Personal transportation to the point of departure, personal lodging, personal items such as medicines and special food, liquor and other specialty items.

We will accept donations of cash, products, services, vouchers or discounts for purchases, gift certificates, gold coins, diamonds, cars, houses, castles, very large boats, and office buildings in Manhattan!
A few of the items we need for the expedition: tents, ATV, shipping cases, medical supplies, small generators, emergency food, satellite link, handheld radios, ...


In addition to cash donations, companies can avail themselves of the opportunity to obtain exposure of their products and services to a worldwide audience. We are happy to consider any reasonable arrangement for including corporate logos on the expedition websites and onsite (shelters, etc.), testamonials, images and other materials from the expedition, and follow-on sales from discounts or other promotions. Before you make your donation: We suggest you look at the list of SPONSORS, so see which category you might prefer. Please include your radio callsign (if you have one) and other information so we can properly credit you! NOTE: Banks and PayPal charge a fee for those transactions. You can avoid this fee by making your donation by check. However, most people prefer the convenience of PayPal, and that is just fine.
